Structural
Heart Disease

Dr. Godbole provides advanced, minimally invasive treatment for structural heart conditions affecting the valves and chambers of the heart, offering catheter-based alternatives to open-heart surgery for suitable patients.

TAVI Procedures

Anatomical heart model highlighting aortic valve territory for TAVI

Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) is a minimally invasive procedure to replace a diseased, narrowed aortic valve without open-heart surgery. A new valve is delivered via catheter, typically through the femoral artery, and expanded into place within the diseased valve.

TAVI has transformed the treatment of aortic valve disease, particularly for patients at higher risk from conventional surgery.

ASD Closure

Clinical imaging equipment used for imaging-guided ASD closure

An Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) is an opening between the heart's upper chambers, which may be identified in childhood or later in adult life. Many ASDs can be closed using a catheter-based device closure technique, avoiding the need for open-heart surgery.

The procedure is performed under imaging guidance, with the closure device delivered and positioned precisely across the defect.

LAA Closure

Cardiac rhythm monitor for atrial fibrillation and LAA closure planning

In patients with atrial fibrillation, the Left Atrial Appendage (LAA) is the most common source of blood clots that can lead to stroke. LAA closure is a catheter-based procedure that seals off this structure, offering an alternative to long-term blood-thinning medication for patients who are unable to tolerate it.

This procedure provides an important stroke-prevention option for a carefully selected group of patients.

Adult Structural Heart Conditions

Clinical assessment tools for adult structural heart conditions

Beyond TAVI and LAA closure, Dr. Godbole manages a broader range of adult structural heart conditions, including:

  • Device closure of other congenital defects, such as ventricular septal defects and patent ductus arteriosus
  • Evaluation and management of valve disorders diagnosed in adulthood
  • Coordination with cardiac surgery for conditions best managed surgically

Treatment decisions in structural heart disease are made through careful, individualized assessment — combining detailed imaging, risk evaluation, and discussion of all available treatment options.
